Individual therapy is one-on-one therapy sessions just you and the therapist. Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes but can be up to 90 minutes if needed. Generally, clients are advised to meet with their therapist on a weekly basis. In some circumstances, clients will meet biweekly (every other week) or multiple times a week depending on the situation. Frequency of sessions is a case by case scenario and depends on the client’s needs and wants at the time of treatment. Therapy is fluid and always changing so as things in life calm down, clients may drop to biweekly or monthly sessions and when life throws curve balls, sessions may be increased.
It is recommended that clients meet once a week in the beginning of therapy to build the therapeutic relationship and so the therapist can get to know the client. Then, gradually sessions can be altered as deemed fit.
